After various attempts in trying to meet up with Dr Aduel, I finally managed to get a hold of her for a few minutes and sit her down for an interview. Dr. Aduel, being my business professor for the two semesters and me having gone to her office hours multiple times I had a pretty general idea of how the interview would go but boy was I wrong. Within the first few minutes of the interview she had told me that she worked in so many different jobs and fields and how she knows four different languages. I was bombarded with information. Before becoming a professor here at Bloomsburg University Dr. Aduel worked at Geisinger working with health insurance. When I asked her the kinds of writing she had to do for that job she belted out a huge list of thing; business memos, business policies interview invites, thank you notes, letters to venders, emails. I personally never though in the field of business there would be that much writing but Dr. Aduel sure told me otherwise. As a professor, which would be more on a day to day basis, she deals with more student email, meeting organization, research papers, and proposal of students organization. She also told me all about her Odyssey of the Mind Club which requires not only writing but all skills. That one question that did throw Dr. Aduel off of her game was the one about what purpose she writes for. She said that the question seemed very vague and that most all people write for the same reason in the business world. She uses writing to try and communicate accurately and professionally in order to keep important relationship with clients and feel staff members. Also she said writing can be a good source for networking yourself for the fact that writing out accomplishments and a résumé in a profound manner it will increase ability to get a job. The audiences that she writes to for the most part are either students or factuality. When she worked at Geisinger she said she did a lot of work and research with international business. She would write to superior of her own and other companies in attempt to finalize different deals and transactions throughout the business which I would to be extremely interesting for the fact that it sounded like some real stressful and advanced work. The ending of that last question transitioned perfectly into my next on for Dr. Aduel. With international business on her mind she easily had someone in mind when I asked her about a research article she admired. The article was titled International Strategies by Dr. Steve Si. Although I was unable to get a hard copy of the article Dr. Aduel managed to give me a pretty in-depth summery. She said that the article talks about macroeconomic scale trading from nation to nation and the different rates of inflation that economist deal with. The article goes on to talk about tips to outsourcing a business to another country. Dr. Aduel told me that this article interested her for the fact with Geisinger being such a big company knowing information like that is crucial. After talking to Dr. Aduel for about writing we talk more about my aspirations. I told her my major and how I don't really know many people in the business department. I also said that I wanted to get a concentration in Supply Chain Management. Dr. Aduel being the professor she is took me on a field trip to different rooms where I got to meet different Professors and in the process have I ended up going this group related to Supply Chain. Through this interview with Dr. Aduel I managed to learn a little bit about writing in the business field but more importantly I was about to have her network with me a to a point where I got to meet a few good resources for the future.
